Folklore dance is a traditional style of dancing that many citizens of Mexico enjoy watching and dancing. For this piece, I wanted to capture the moment her dress fans out to expose the fluidity of color. I, as well, wanted to pay homage to my grandmother for teaching me the basic skills of embroidery. Back then it was quite common to know embroidery as a requirement for marriageable women.

Hello, I’m Stephanie and I am Mexican. I was born/raised in Georgia but visited my relatives in Mexico. Although I’m not well versed in its language/history/culture, I still feel a deep connection to my heritage.
