Statement
I made my piece about my great grandparents, who were migrant farmers and came over to America for a new chance at life. They are the figures featured in the piece. My bisabuelo [great grandfather] is holding a rose which is a symbol of love and of my family, the De La Rosa’s, which means “of the rose”. Framing the piece are symbols for hope, family, and religion. I also borrowed elements from Catholic and Mexican folk art.
